Brad Perry
NASA Veteran - Astronomy Researcher & Educator - Pastor - Christian Apologist
Brad Perry brings a distinctive background in science, education, ministry, and Christian apologetics to Faith & Science. During his 32-year career with NASA, he served as a Space Shuttle astronaut instructor, contributed to the design of the International Space Station, and evaluated mission concepts for NASA's robotic exploration of the planets and universe.
Brad's work in astronomy includes more than twenty peer-reviewed publications on the optical and near-infrared spectroscopy of variable stars, novae, supernovae, and planetary objects. For eighteen years, he also taught introductory astronomy through William & Mary's Osher Lifelong Learning Institute.
Ordained as a pastor in 2021, Brad serves as Pastor of Historic White Marsh Church in Lancaster, Virginia. His background in science, astronomy, education, ministry, and Christian apologetics provides the foundation for Faith & Science—an exploration of the relationship between God's Word and His creation.
Drawing from both Scripture and the study of the natural world, Brad invites audiences to consider what God's Word and His creation reveal about the beginning of the universe, the remarkable conditions necessary for life, and Earth's extraordinary place within the cosmos.
Brad's Early Life: The Basement Apollo CM Mockup
Long before he was a NASA engineer, Perry gained national attention for his dedication to space exploration.
As a high school student in North Carolina, Perry built a full-scale interior mockup of the Apollo Command Module in his basement.
Apollo 16 Simulation: He entered the simulator on April 16 and remained inside for the 11-day duration of the Apollo 16 mission, following the astronauts’ duties in real-time from launch until splashdown on April 27.
