Whenever I am afraid, I will trust in You. (Psalm 56:3 NKJV)
In Old Testament times, the Israelites were given many directions from God that did not seem logical at the time. Most of the time, God told them to do something way beyond their scope to succeed on their own. However, hindsight always revealed why God had given them specific directions.
We often trust in ourselves when life is easy—good job, marriage, kids, health, etc. There is no need for fear. However, fear and anxiety rear their ugly heads when life gets hard. In those times of desperation, we cry out to God, and He always hears us. When He answers us in a way that is contradictory to our thinking, the fear and mistrust reveal themselves again. Why is it so hard to trust God?
Thankfully, not only is He faithful and true, but He is also patient and kind. Therefore, we can trust Him in all things. Can we trust Him enough to do what He says even when it seems wrong? Most definitely!
"He calls us to trust him so completely that we are unafraid to put ourselves in situations where we will be in trouble if He doesn't come through." - Francis Chan
