Our soul waits for the Lord; he is our help and our shield. For our heart is glad in him, because we trust in his holy name. Let your steadfast love, O LORD, be upon us, even as we hope in you. (Psalm 33:20-22 ESV)
In Old Testament times, the Israelites were given many directions from God that did not seem logical at the time. Most of the time God told them to do something when it was way beyond their scope to succeed on their own. However, hindsight always revealed the reason why God had given them specific directions.
Many times we have the tendency to trust in ourselves when life is easy - good job, good marriage, good kids, good health, etc. There is no need to fear. It is when life gets hard that fear and anxiety rear their ugly heads. In those times of desperation, we cry out to God and He always hears us. But when He answers us in a way that is contradictory to our thinking, the fear and mistrust reveal themselves again. Why is it so hard to trust God?
Thankfully, not only is He faithful and true, He is patient and kind. We can trust Him in all things. The question is can we trust Him enough to do what He says, even when it seems wrong in our minds? Most assuredly!
"The safest place in all the world is in the will of God, and the safest protection in all the world is the name of God."
