Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. (2 Corinthians 5:17 ESV)
Happy New Year! Welcome to 2024 - The year that God is doing more!
How gracious it is that God allows us to start over. When we go to sleep and wake up to a new day, we have the possibility of moving forward and putting away the past. Each day, God gives us a new sunrise. Whatever happened yesterday is in the past, no matter what we experienced.
Today's verse focuses on how God reminds us that the old has passed and the new has come. In Christ, we can start a new, fruitful, and abundant life.
No matter what resolutions we have to change our habits or physical activity, all goodness, joy, contentment, and completeness flow from one source, the true spring of living water: Jesus Christ.
We want to be holy, and we fall short of the holiness we long for. We want to love but we say hurtful things. We want to worship but we feel cold. We want to walk in peace but we feel anxiety. We want to be pure in thought but impurity bombards our minds.
God promises to make all things new. And when God makes all things new, He makes us new spiritually and morally, and He makes us new physically.
“The object of a New Year is not that we should have a new year. It is that we should have a new soul and a new nose; new feet, a new backbone, new ears, and new eyes. Unless a particular man made New Year resolutions, he would make no resolutions. Unless a man starts afresh about things, he will certainly do nothing effective.” – G.K. Chesterton
