I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go;
I will counsel you with my loving eye on you. (Psalm 32:8 NIV)
A follower of Jesus was sleeping. In the middle of the night, He was awakened by the Holy Spirit telling him to get up and get dressed. Knowing it was the Lord, the man obeyed. Next, the Lord told the man to go downstairs and go outside. The man obeyed.
Once outside, the Lord told the man to go to the street and face left. Again, the man obeyed. Facing left, the Lord told the man to stand under a specific tree down the road. The man obeyed. The final instruction was given. The Lord told the man to preach the gospel. It was the middle of the night, and the street was empty. Even feeling foolish, the man still obeyed.
The man heard a sound above him a few minutes into his preaching. It was a young man sitting on a tree branch, sobbing and holding a rope. He intended to do something very drastic - end his life. Instead of a life-ending that night, a new life in Christ began. Why? Because a follower of Jesus listened and obeyed the voice of the Holy Spirit, leading him step by step.
We may not be able to see ahead where the Lord is leading us, but if we listen and obey, He will do wonders through us that we could never imagine.
"It is wonderful what miracles God works in wills that are utterly surrendered to Him." - Hannah Whitall Smith
