Yesterday, in the twilight of waking up, part of a song and scripture from a while ago was stirring inside me, "for those who hunger and thirst after righteousness shall be filled, shall be filled, shall be filled." (Matthew 5:6) Then I sensed the Lord ask me what that meant to me?
Have you ever been so hungry or thirsty that the thought of eating anything appealed to you? I know I am guilty of eating "junk" in order to be momentarily satisfied. I know it's not good for my body, but I eat it anyway because it tastes good. Then later, I am filled with regret and shame that I was weak.
Well, God's word is not like that. You eat it and it tastes so good and it sustains the body, soul and spirit. Even better, there is no regret or shame, just life!
The thing about hunger and thirst is that the body or soul is going to be satisfied one way or the other. We have the freedom to choose what we are going to eat or drink. Let's all taste and see that the Lord is good. (Psalm 34:8)
