For to us a child is born,
to us a son is given,
and the government will be upon his shoulder,
And his name shall be called
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. (Isaiah 9:6)
Did you know that the word peace appears somewhere over 400 times in the Bible?
The Bible has a lot to say about peace, as it attributes peace to Jesus himself: the Prince of Peace.
That first Christmas, when God sent His Son, He sent Him who is called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, and Prince of Peace. Even the angels cried out, “Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.” The angels knew Jesus' purpose. They recognized that the fullness of God was wrapped in the tiny flesh of an infant as He humbled Himself and dwelt among us. Emmanuel, God with us.
That baby grew and was the God-man, Jesus, who would again humble himself to face death on a Cross as payment for our sins. He would triumphantly defeat sin and death and save who would believe in Him.
Hallelujah to the Prince of Peace!
“Hail the heaven-born Prince of Peace!
Hail the Sun of righteousness!
Light and life to all he brings
Risen with healing in his wings” – Charles Wesley, “Hark! The Herald Angels Sing”
