For he who is mighty has done great things for me, and holy is his name. (Luke 1:49)
It is so wonderful to know that we can speak to God as our Father. He loves us and only wants good for us, but we also need to see Him as being holy.
When we pray to God, we are recognizing that His nature is holy and distinct from us. This leads us into a closer walk with our Creator and then spawns the development of holiness in us, mirroring the nature of the God we worship.
The beginning of the Lord's Prayer immediately brings our focus to God. When we say, "hallowed is your name," we are giving glory to God. We are praising God for who He is.
The Lord’s Prayer:
Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name.
Your kingdom come,
Your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our debts,
as we forgive our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation,
But deliver us from evil.
For Yours is the kingdom and the power
and the glory forever. Amen.
"In holiness God is more clearly seen than in anything else, save in the Person of Christ Jesus the Lord, of whose life such holiness is but a repetition." - Charles Spurgeon
