Let the wise hear and increase in learning, and the one who understands obtain guidance. (Proverbs 1:5 ESV)
As believers, what we hear is very important. We should be committed to only listening to what is good, pure, of life, and of God. This is not always easy with what we hear on social media, TV, or even among friends.
Listening to lies, crude or harsh talking, and gossip causes us to meditate on things that are not holy. It is a very deceptive trap of the enemy because our flesh can sometimes gravitate to the latest morsel of gossip or anything that is not Godly. Our chief aim should be to stay away from such things.
As we serve the Lord, let us keep our ears away from what is not holy so that we will be open to hearing the voice of God.
“Christians have forgotten that the ministry of listening has been committed to them by Him who is Himself the great listener and whose work they shall share. We should listen with the ears of God that we may speak the Word of God.” - Dietrich Bonhoeffer
