Therefore we do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day. (2 Corinthians 4:16 NKJV)
Day by day, our physical bodies are dying. Death is a fact of life - something we all must face eventually. We don't typically think about this, though, until we start to grow old. But from birth onward, however, our flesh is in a slow process of aging until the day we take our final breath.
Paul speaks of the "inner" man, the stimulation of mind and spirit that keeps him triumphant, rejoicing, optimistic, faithful, trusting, and expectant as he lives daily. That is the hope of the believer.
2 Corinthians 4:16 takes on a deeper meaning during our more mature stages in life, as we realize we will one day leave this earth to be with the Lord.
In the meantime, as we dig into God's Word and commune with Him through prayer and meditation our faith walk with Him continues to grow deeper.
