…for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control. (2 Timothy 1:7 ESV)
The Fruit of the Spirit is SELF-CONTROL.
Galatians 5:22-23 says, "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Against such things, there is no law."
Perhaps one of the hardest things we struggle with daily is self-control or self-discipline. From deciding to exercise, sleep late, or eat fruit instead of a donut, we are faced with daily temptations. Though we know that exercise is good for us, or that a piece of fruit holds fewer calories, the battle that wages in our minds is a constant reminder that temptation and sin have power in our lives.
To exercise self-control is to discipline ourselves, set boundaries, and have power over our actions. A lack of self-control leads to the free reign of worldly patterns that can exercise control over us.
Thank God for his Word and for His divine power, which is everything we need to live successfully and glorify God.
"We must have a spirit of power towards the enemy, a spirit of love towards men, and a spirit of self-control towards ourselves." - Watchman Nee
