“Anyone who wants to be first must take last place and be the servant of everyone else.”
(Mark 9:35 NLT)
Jesus spoke today’s verse as He was descending from the mountaintop with Peter, James and John after He was transfigured. God had just spoken, “This is my beloved Son. Listen to him.”
And what did Jesus have to say? Jesus said that if you want to be first, you have to take last place and be the servant of everyone else. This is the opposite of today’s “Me First” mentality, and it is what we as believers are called to do.
“A Christian man is the most free lord of all, and subject to none; A Christian man is the most dutiful servant to all, and subject to everyone.”
- Martin Luther
