And Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst.”
(John 6:35 NKJV)
Bread of life means “bread which supplies life.” In the Old Testament times manna satisfied physical needs for a while; Christ satisfies spiritual needs forever. Interestingly, Jesus made the statement, “I am the bread of life,” after feeding more than five thousand people with five loaves of bread and two fish.
Jesus feeds the spiritual hungry with Himself; He satisfies our deepest longings of the soul and fulfills all our needs. Until He returns, Jesus will work toward the redemption of all broken people in the world. Our action is to turn to Him and believe, placing our faith in Him as our Savior.
Bread of Life? Jesus lived up to the title. But an unopened loaf does a person no good. Have you received the bread?
Have you received God's forgiveness?
