But God shows his anger from heaven against all sinful, wicked people who push the truth away from themselves. For the truth about God is known to them instinctively. God has put this knowledge in their hearts. From the time the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky and all that God made. They can clearly see his invisible qualities – his eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse whatsoever for not knowing God.
(Romans 1:18-20 NLT)
God puts in everyone’s heart an inner witness to a source of right and wrong, and a greater power to whom they are accountable. Perhaps, people who have not heard about Christ may not be judged for rejecting Him. But they will be charged for rejecting the revelation given them through their conscience.
Many choose to ignore their inner compass of right and wrong, and to live self-centered lives leading to moral decline. Unfortunately, this is a very prevalent and alarming trend in our world today. As Christians, we are called to reflect Christ in our lives, in addition to our moral compasses of right and wrong, in everything that we do and say.
"It is beyond dispute that some awareness of God exists in the human mind by natural instinct, since God Himself has given everyone some idea of Him so that no one can plead ignorance."
- John Calvin
