Thus far in our study of the Lord's Prayer, we have come to see God as our Heavenly Father, who is Holy and deserves our worship. We also recognize that we are part of the Kingdom of God, and we choose to do His will and trust Him to take care of us. We have also looked at the importance of forgiveness and how God will protect us from temptation if we ask Him. Today, we focus on seeking help from God to deliver or rescue us from evil.
In this portion of the Lord's Prayer, we ask God to deliver us from evil. Some versions of this prayer say, "deliver us from the evil one". In both instances, we need God to do something that we are not capable of doing ourselves. Our Christian walk is all about being totally dependent on God for everything - physically, mentally and spiritually. Why is this important? When we try to do things on our own, we become self-sufficient and live under the guise that somehow we are in control of our lives. This is a false reality.
Our example for being delivered from the evil one rests solely on our relationship with God, our Heavenly Father to whom we pray. Jesus was tempted by the evil one and how did He reply? With the Word of God - every single time! He was in such a deep relationship with His Father that He knew there was no need to fear.
The best way to get to know someone is to spend time with them. Our best way of getting to know our Father, who is our Deliverer, is to spend time with Him reading His Word. As we spend time with Him, we can trust Him to take care of us and protect us from evil.

Scriptures:
“I do not ask that you take them out of the world, but that you keep them from the evil one.” (John 17:15)
Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. (Ephesians 6:10-11)
Prayer:
Our Father in heaven,
Hallowed be Your name.
Your kingdom come.
Your will be done
On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts,
As we forgive our debtors.
And do not lead us into temptation,
But deliver us from the evil one.
For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.
