And Jesus cried out with a loud voice, and breathed His last. Then the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. So when the centurion, who stood opposite Him, saw that He cried out like this and breathed His last, he said, “Truly this Man was the Son of God!” (Mark 15:37-39 NKJV)
Last night, we attended a wonderful Easter presentation called Living Hope at Bethel Baptist Church in Yorktown, Virginia. The story of God’s love for us was told using key scenes from Genesis to Revelation.
The presentation was very impactful, constantly pointing to the fact that Jesus is our one true hope. The scene where Jesus is on the cross was very poignant, reminding us of His profound love for us. He was hanging there voluntarily in the midst of harsh mocking and insults, when He could have easily come down. Nothing but pure hatred was thrown at Him, but He chose to stay there because of His love for us, knowing that He was and is our only hope. The centurion there recognized this after Jesus gasped His last breath, when the earth shook and the temple veil was torn in two from top to bottom.
May we be like this centurion, acknowledging and believing today on Good Friday, and always that Jesus is truly the Son of God and that He is our Living Hope for today, tomorrow and forever.
