What you have learned and received and heard and seen in me - practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you. (Philippians 4:9 ESV)
Today concludes our series on the lyrics of our song called The Blessing, from our second EP titled “If My People...”
We wrote our musical arrangement of the Aaronic Blessing located in Numbers 6:24-26. The final phrase of The Blessing is, “and give you peace.”
The Hebrew word for peace is "shalom." Shalom is probably the most familiar Hebrew word to most of us, but there is so much more to the meaning this word than we realize. It’s deeper than just peace or a greeting and includes the concept of “completeness, wholeness, harmony, and fulfillment." True "shalom" always has its source in God.
When we are feeling anxious about things happening in our lives, we can have the peace that passes all understanding because of the relationship that we have with Jesus, the Prince of Peace. We can share our deepest, darkest times, as well as those that are overwhelmingly joyful with Him. He always listens, and unlike so many that we call friends on this earth, He always genuinely cares. Through Him, we can have true "shalom."
Prayer: Lord, what a blessing and an honor it is be able to call You our Father. We don't deserve Your love, yet You give us everything that we need and more. Thank you for your peace that passes all understanding. In You, we are truly complete. Amen.
“If God be our God, He will give us peace in trouble. When there is a storm without, He will make peace within. The world can create trouble in peace, but God can create peace in trouble.” - Thomas Watson
