Know therefore that the Lord your God is God; he is the faithful God, keeping his covenant of love to a thousand generations of those who love him and keep his commandments. (Deuteronomy 7:9 NIV)
Throughout scripture, we read that God is a faithful God. What does that mean to us? Faithful in the dictionary is defined as loyal, constant, and steadfast.
Let’s break down those three words that describe how God is faithful: loyal, constant, and steadfast.
God is loyal. When others turn their backs on you, He never will. There is nothing that can keep you from His love. Even if you turn your back on Him, He is always waiting faithfully to receive you with open arms.
God is constant. He promises that He will never leave nor forsake you. His presence is constant, never wavering, but continuing without end. You can count on His presence at all times.
God is steadfast. His love is never wavering. It cannot be tossed to and fro like a boat on a raging sea. He is firmly faithful and there is nothing that can change His love for you.
God never changes. There are no circumstances that could ever make Him different than who He is. He is and will always be faithful to those who love Him, no matter what. It is up to us to trust Him.
"God is God. Because He is God, He is worthy of my trust and obedience. I will find rest nowhere but in His holy will, a will that is unspeakably beyond my largest notions of what He is up to." - Elisabeth Elliot
