“Don’t worry about a thing,” David told Saul.
“I’ll go fight this Philistine!”
“Don’t be ridiculous!” Saul replied. “There is no way you can go against this Philistine. You are only a boy, and he has been in the army since he was a boy!”
…The LORD who saved me from the claws of the lion and the bear will save me from this Philistine!”
Saul finally consented. “All right, go ahead,” he said.
And may the LORD be with you!”
(1 Samuel 17:32-33, 37 NLT)
The story of David slaying Goliath is one that many of us learned as a child growing up. None of the seasoned Hebrew soldiers dared to fight Goliath, but this teenage shepherd boy, armed only with a staff and a sling used to throw rocks, accepted the challenge and won!
How did David do it? How did the puny boy overcome the giant? He had God on his side, and he was confident and without trembling when he faced Goliath. He had complete faith in God.
At the deepest, most important level, this story is about the omnipotent God of Israel versus the impotent little deities of the Philistines. And in this match-up there could be no other outcome. The God that created the universe could never be threatened by the strength and weapons of Goliath!
As you face the challenges of living, put your complete faith in God as David did. You do not need to face your Goliaths by yourself, because as a believer you have God to lead you just like He led David!
In order to trust God, we must always view our adverse circumstances through the eyes of faith, not of sense.
