He will be like a planted tree over streams of water,
producing its fruit during its season.
Its leaf never droops—
but in all he does, he succeeds.
(Psalm 1:3 TLV)
What does it take to be fruitful in God? Let’s take a look at a tree. There are two parts to a tree; the part above the ground and the part below the ground. They both need each other to thrive.
The most important part of a tree is below the ground and unseen. From the roots come the tree’s water, minerals, and its nourishment. Without the roots, the tree cannot live. If the roots are shallow or weak, the tree and its fruits will wither away. A tree’s fruitfulness can only be as good as its roots.
With God, our life is like a tree. The part visible to the world represents our fruitfulness, while the invisible part represents our roots in God. No one can see the roots, but it is this part in which we thrive and grow - our faith, devotion, love, communion, and all that is in our heart.
Our fruitfulness in God will always be directly related to our “rootfulness” in God. As we grow deeper in the Lord, our lives will bear more fruit for Him.
“The amount of time we spend with Jesus
- meditating on His Word and His majesty, seeking His face
- establishes our fruitfulness in the kingdom.”
